This 1974 Miller-Meteor Criterion on a Cadillac chassis was first owned by the City of Stanwood, WA, and later by Lewis County, WA. I bought it from Stanwood (WA) truck sales in March of 98 and had the exterior restored. It needed mechanical work and no interior work. It is a rare unit in that there is a walk-through area between the patient and driver compartments...not your usual "professional car" ambulance. It took until October to get the exterior done. The original cost was approximately $19,000.

This ambulance is also unique in that window space was sacrificed in order to contain more medical service area; this vehicle can transport 4 patients simultaneously and has a lot of cabinet space.

The rig was in the body shop from early July, 1998, to mid-October
I had the ambulance painted Cotillion White and Dynasty Red...popular ambulance colors from the 60s and 70s until Omaha Orange was required.

Station 21

This photo was taken in November of '98 when this station was known as Sarasota County Fire Station 31. It is now Station 21. An E-One ladder truck poses behind the Caddy. This truck was retired in 2006.

I sold this ambulance to Emergency Care Dynamics of San Diego, CA, in January of 1999. It was then used for publicity and was usually seen sitting outside a clinic near the San Diego Airport. In 2004 it was purchased by Mr. A.J. Heightman, the editor of the Journal of Emergency Medical Sevices. If you can find the August (04) edition of JEMS, see page 14 for an awesome article about this car! It also outlines his ultimate plans for this great piece of EMS history!
